Investments to secure well-qualified staff and substantial upgrading of infrastructure fuelled the transformation of UoR into a leader of higher education in Sri Lanka. To date, UoR has produced nearly 28,000 graduates and over 1,050 postgraduates. Around 800 postgraduate students are pursuing Master’s and Doctoral degrees at the University in different disciplines that are of relevance to the development of the region in particular and the country in general. Career for undergraduates in universities was recently recognized as a policy priority by the Government of Sri Lanka. At the University, the Career Guidance Unit was set up in March 2000 to provide career guidance services to undergraduates. Since then, the unit has implemented various programs to make the undergraduates aware of the employment opportunities, the skills required by employers, and the way of acquiring the skills and knowledge necessary for responding to job market needs. The unit wishes to build up continuous links with the private sector as well the government institutions, as well as to facilitate productive interaction between the undergraduates and such institutions.
