Pokhara University is a public university in Nepal and is autonomous in its function. It was established in 1997 and is the second largest university in terms of students’ enrolment in Nepal. About 30,000 students are enrolled in its four different constituent colleges and 58 affiliated colleges. There are four Faculties including Faculty of Sciences and Technology, Faculty of Management Studies, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Health Sciences. The vision of this university is to become a leader in imparting quality education and a centre of excellence. The university offers 45 programs and about thousand courses in various undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs. For 20 years since its inception, Pokhara University is playing an active role in promoting higher education in the region. From Pokhara valley can be viewed the range of Himalayas and it is the hub for tourism and the gateway to the Himalayan range. With its rich biodiversity, Pokhara University is considering the establishment of a centre for medicinal herbs in the region with a view to establishing closer links to industry and ensuring the major knowledge production required for such a centre. The University also intends to run agriculture and environment related programs by founding extended campuses in the mountainous region. Research is considered as a means to make university education relevant and practically useful for society. Therefore, the development of university education emphasizes that teaching professionals and university graduates increasingly engage in research activities that contribute to knowledge acquisition, development, and the application of knowledge to solving problems. Pokhara University Research Centre (PURC) was established in 2012 with the purpose to promote scientific and quality research in all three existing faculties of the university.
