The Ifugao State University (IFSU) was established in 1920 and metamorphosed into a university in 2009 through Republic Act 9720. It is one of the 112 government funded university in the Philippines and one of the leading universities in the Cordillera Administrative Region. It provides advanced instruction and professional training in education, arts and sciences, health, public administration, information technology, accountancy, business and industry, agriculture and forestry, engineering, indigenous knowledge and other relevant fields of study. It also undertakes research and extension services, and provides progressive leadership in its areas of specialization. The University offers graduate, undergraduate, and short-term technical courses in various areas. In 2006, it started to offer its programs through innovative approaches that peaked into distance and transnational education in 2010. To date, it has 266 faculty servicing 5,528 students across all its programs and 6 campuses. The university was extensively involved and continue to be involved in various programs and projects that benefit the people of the Cordillera Region. Notable among them are the following multi-million peso funded programs, the Integrated R&D on Agroforestry Systems, Organic VELERO, Fish-Shell Production, Textile Industry, & Rice Terraces Conservation Program funded by the Philippine Government, the Amalgamation Initiative of CAR-SUCs funded by the Commission on Higher Education, the Nurturing Indigenous Knowledge Expert Program funded by the National Federation of UNESCO Association of Japan and the currently being implemented Satoyama Meister Training Program (ISMTP) funded by JICA and the INNOTAL program among many others.
