Final Dissemination Event organized by Agriculture and Forestry Unievrsity, Nepal
The final dissemination event organized by Agriculture and Forestry University, Nepal, took place online September 27, 2021.
20 external stakeholders and 7 university stakeholders participated. Among the external participants were representatives from the Ministry of Karnali Province, the Directorate of Karnali Province, the Ministry of Ganadaki Province, the District Agriculture Office, the Federation of Nepalese Small Farmers, the Agriculture Development Bank, NGOs and educational providers, enterprises. The University was represented by the INNOTAL team, as well as the Registrar and the Vice-Chancellor.
The event was focused on presenting the results of the project and the plans for continuing the collaborations between the University and the external stakeholders. Feedback on the initiative was collected.
External stakeholders expressed keen interest in participation in curriculum reform and periodical planning workshops. They can provide technical inputs and official premises for students’ involvement in volunteering work and internships. Stakeholders stressed that innovation projects pursued by the University should focus on environmental conservation. Innovative techniques in digital trade, record keeping, evaluation, monitoring, and pricing are the other urgent needs of farming and business. Nepal is suffering from high level of postharvest loss of crops and livestock products. Innovative techniques on production alone cannot solve the problems of food insecurity. So, techniques on minimization of post-harvest loss should urgently be addressed while designing the products and technology in the INNOTAL Talent Co-creation Lab. Stakeholders also suggested that teaching, research and extension activities of the University should focus on technology and product development to encourage the inclusion and livelihood of small and marginal farmers, and women farmers. Ideas generated, tested and released should be properly patented before their commercial release.
Karnali Province announced that it has decided to provide a small start-up fund for students of the province who want to start innovative business.
